![]() ![]() Unfortunately we underestimated the difficulty of this hike-there are really many steep ups and downs on the way and we did not feel it was suitable for kids unless they are part of experienced hiker family (which our kids are not). We hiked there on the 4th of July to avoid crowds in the city. If you like to sing aloud, this would be a good time to practice. While they really pose no risk (there has never been a bear attack in the park in over 100 years), it is best not to startle one just as best practice. We saw a black bear with her two cubs in this area and we had a close - very close - encounter with a brown bear. It is probably a good idea to make noise as you move through the area in the Fall because the bears are out and active. Rainier are spectacular as well as the peaks of the Goat Rocks WIlderness and Tatoosh Range.Ī bit under two miles you will find the maintained trail ends, but the trail itself continues and is in good condition (as of this posting).Įven on a rainy day with no view of Mt. This is a fairly easy trail that is made even more spectacular by the colors out this fall. It is clearly marked and there is parking space for a number of cars. Rainier and we would absolutely do it again. ![]() Sitting on the edge of the peaceful water and enjoying the serene surroundings was the highlight of our trip to Mt. One brave soul jumped in and we heard his scream on the opposite end of the lake. The water is crystal clear and very cold. The main trail leads to the lake, but you can cut off at Snow Lake Camp for a different view, or keep going on the original trail and even take smaller paths around the lake. We actually sprayed twice and let other hikers borrow some. I really recommend taking bug spray as mosquitos and gnats were pretty rampant. There is a small portion of the hike toward the end that gets pretty steep and a little slippery if you're wearing sneakers like I was, but still doable. The map that the park rangers provide upon entry really comes in handy for location markers. If you're doing the Nisqually Loop, definitely make this your first stop then circle back around. It took us 2 hours to finish and people were circling the area waiting for an opening at that time. The small parking area is only large enough for about 10 vehicles and we were one of the last to get a spot at 9:20am. As other reviewers mentioned before, parking fills up quickly. ![]() This was such a beautiful hike and well worth every step. ![]()
